Dell and Sonya Curry for the first time do not support Stephen together in NBA Finals

One of the most well-known marriages in the NBA was that of Dell and Sonya Curry, parents of Golden State Warriors star Stephen. Last year the couple was in the middle of controversy after they announced their divorce after 30 years of being married. Dell and Sonya met at Virginia Tech in the 1980s when she played volleyball and he played basketball. They married in 1988, the year Steph was born. At the time Dell was playing for the Blazers. That love story ended.

The process was hard for both of them, both accused each other of infidelities. The couple always sat together at NBA games to watch their son, but in these Finals they won’t and the atmosphere is different. Last December, Dell and Sonya went to Madison Square Garden to watch their son play, both sat in different parts.

“We are so thankful for all the many blessings and successes! We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths. We ask that our privacy be respected and prayer for our family as we move forward,” a joint statement read. Last August, TMZ said court records revealed that Sonya filed for divorce on June 14 in North Carolina – and that the exes accused each other of cheating.

Curry addressed the situation earlier this year
“I could be mad and be like, ‘Y’all effed this up.’ I could have that approach,” he told The Ringer. “But it’s going to be an acknowledgment of both of y’all in terms of how y’all raised me. The calmness I have in myself is because of y’all.” Curry is in search of his fourth NBA title and first NBA Finals MVP award. The two accused each other of cheating
Sonya said Dell committed “illicit sexual misconduct” with different women during their marriage and that the parties’ family and close friends knew of the infidelity, according to divorce records.
